Our goal with Jack and Walter is to create books that children and adults will love to read, that will also help children with their mental health – building emotional literacy and resilience skills, with a sprinkling of fun along the way.
Alongside the books, our not-for-profit Jack and Walter project also aims to help a number of children’s charities.
A relationship is already in place with Great Ormond Street Hospital, to whom we have supplied books for in-patient children at the big GOSH Christmas Parties. Paulette and Charlotte also work with Sarah Jacoby CEO of Comfort Cases UK Charity, supporting children going into care in the UK. The charity wants to stop children moving around the care system with a black bin bag. A large number of free copies of our books have already been gifted to both of these charities as, if ever a child needs that extra help from Walter, it is under these circumstances.
It is also in the plan to help ConnectImpactHub supporting homeless children in the United States from the book sales over there.
In addition to the books donated to the charities named above, Paulette and Charlotte have sent free copies to counsellors, schools and childcare organisations in order to spread Jack and Walter's message as widely as possible in the heart of the places that matter.
You can read the heart-warming reviews we have received from some of the recipients below. Please do reach out to us to connect via Jack and Walter if you are in a childcare setting and want to say hello!
Paulette and Charlotte will continue giving free copies of their books to the organisations close to their hearts and to give the profits – if there are any – to children’s charities.
Sales from Amazon are all, therefore, very gratefully sought after. You can read some reviews of the books sold on Amazon below. Please add your own review to our page on Amazon when you can!
The Banterless Breakfast Mystery is a heartwarming book which especially would help children struggling with bereavement to have something to relate to. The reflective questions in the book are great for getting children to think about difficult subjects such as worrying and develop problem solving skills by getting children to recognise emotions and come up with coping strategies. I have tried to use some of these stories with young children that I work with and it definitely helps them to consider both their feelings and their peers.
I would definitely recommend this book!
I recently had the pleasure of reading this wonderful book to my 7-year-old twins, and it quickly became an absolute favourite.
One aspect of the book that particularly resonated with my twins was how it addressed the topic of sadness and managing big feelings. It taught them that it's okay to feel sad and provided them with tools to navigate through those emotions.
This lesson in emotional resilience has been incredibly beneficial for my children, as it has helped them understand and express their own feelings.
Jack and Walter also effortlessly introduces the concept of emotional literacy. The story teaches young readers how to identify and understand those emotions in themselves and others. This skill is vital for children's social and emotional development, and this book guides them through the process in a gentle and relatable manner.
This book has become a cherished addition to our library. It not only entertains my twins with its endearing characters but also imparts valuable life lessons.
A must-read for children!
Thank you Paulette! My support work company changed over but I've been really enjoying it.
I also enjoyed your book thats you sent me. I've been trying to use some of the stories and reflective questions with the children I work with :).

Thank you so much Paulette Hallam for this brilliant book here at Locus Amoenus Counselling and Therapy Services. This will go in our little library for children to borrow
These kinds of books are amazing for helping children understand their emotions & process difficulties without becoming overwhelmed
That's beautiful. I showed my dad and he was so surprised with how attentively you approached the subject of death. He's not a man of many words but he did mention that if things like this were available when he was younger life would have been a lot different for the generations after.

I met the author on LinkedIn and found out all the proceeds of the sales of the book goes to homeless charities. This is how I ended up buying it. This book will help your young children deal with fear effectively and permanently! It’s also helpful to adults who need to learn new effective ways to help children overcome their childhood fears.

Sharing "Jack and Walter in New House Nerves: Will there be monsters under my bed?", with my nieces and nephews has been such a blessing! It's a great way to open conversations and get glimpses of what's going on in their hearts and minds. I was reflecting on my own childhood upbringing where we never talked about feelings or fears, I found myself revisiting that little girl to have the conversations I wish I had had in the many times I dealt with fearful situations. Yet in my own way, singing through my emotions became my way of coping for many years. Am encouraged to continue being more intuitive to just be present a lot more, and listen to even what is not said. Thank you for this precious gift to all of us Paulette and Charlotte:)
